When Plate fits

Use Plate when you want to start from an existing visual direction, inspect a working preview, and edit the source in your own project. It is useful for a portfolio, studio website, editorial site or product experience whose structure already suits your content.

Your coding agent performs the edits. Plate does not include model credits, hosting, a custom design service or a guarantee that an agent's first result will be ready to publish. Check each project's requirements and supported changes before choosing it.

From download to your own site

1. Choose a project in the library. Inspect its preview, requirements, licence and editing guidance.

2. Download and extract its source into a new folder. Free website ZIPs work without installing Plate's optional toolkit. Pro source requires an eligible purchase and sign-in through Studio.

3. Open that folder in your coding agent. Copy the project's setup prompt from the library. Have the agent read the included README, editing guide and licence before making changes.

4. Provide your real content and assets. Start with the supported fields and preserve the project's structure unless you deliberately want to redesign it.

5. Run the project's documented preview command. Check a phone-sized view, desktop, navigation, links and any forms. A demonstration form needs a real submission service before it can accept customers.

6. Deploy with a host appropriate to the project. Follow its build requirements and retain asset licence notices. Hosting and any application backend are separate choices.

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor

All three can work on a downloaded source folder. For Plate's optional local capture and MCP workflow, follow installation and setup. It requires Python 3.11 or newer; use the installer linked there.

After installing, python -m plate_toolkit doctor checks the environment. python -m plate_toolkit config claude, config codex or config cursor prints the corresponding connection configuration. Merge that output with your existing configuration. These commands do not install or configure the client for you.

The public Plate Starter repository documents the free toolkit. Public Starter and the Pro collection have different contents; use the website library to check what a purchase includes.

Choose the starting point that fits the task

A complete website package: choose Plate when an existing project has the direction and structure you want to adapt.

A component library: choose individual components when you want to assemble your own structure and design system.

A hosted website builder: choose one when you want editing and hosting together and prefer its managed workflow.

A blank project: start fresh when your requirements need a substantially different structure. A template can cost more work than it saves if you must replace most of it.

Price and licence

Selected website source is free. Plate Pro v1 is US$89 once, with no subscription. It includes released Pro items in the current v1 collection, their fixes and included v1 updates. Your coding agent, model usage and hosting are separate. Taxes depend on your location; Polar shows the final total at checkout.

Downloaded work can be used in your own and your clients' projects under the licence. You may not resell Plate source as a template pack or republish it as a competing library. Preserve each project's asset notices. Read the current offer and licence terms before buying.
