PATCHBAY

A desktop synthesiser small enough for a shelf, built by two people in a workshop in Bristol. This page is its front panel: the same oscillators, filter, envelope and delay, running in your browser. Switch it on and play it before you order one.

Play with the mouse, or with your keyboard — A S D F G H J K L ; are the white keys, W E T Y U O P the black. Z / X shift the octave.

Follow the cable down the rack. Each module joins the sound as the signal reaches it.

OSC

2 VCO + SUB · LFO 22 HP

Two oscillators, one sub. OSC B sits a few cents off OSC A and the pair beats, slowly, the way a real pair drifts with the temperature of the room. The sub is a square wave an octave down: weight, not detail.

The LFO lives here too. Drag from its OUT socket into any CV socket on the rack.

VCF

24 dB LADDER 18 HP
RESPONSE · 20 Hz – 20 kHz · measured from the filter

A 24 dB low-pass ladder in the classic shape: a cutoff you sweep and a resonance that whistles at the edge. Switch to band- or high-pass for the thinner sounds. The curve is measured from the filter itself, not drawn.

GATE

Attack, decay, sustain, release. The envelope is what makes a note a note: a percussive click at two milliseconds, a bowed swell at two seconds. GATE lights while a key is down; the shape below is the one your voices follow.

DLY

BUCKET BRIGADE 16 HP

A bucket-brigade delay: every repeat passes through a low-pass, so the tails get darker, not just quieter. The lamps chase at the delay time. Patch the LFO into TIME for tape wobble.

The last stage. A clean VCA, a twelve-lamp meter and a monitor you can switch between the waveform and the spectrum. What you hear on this page is exactly this graph: no samples, no recordings.

Every knob on this page is a line in a file. WRITE saves what you have made as a PB-1 patch; the same file loads into the hardware over USB. ORDER opens an enquiry with your patch in the subject line, so we build your unit with your sound already in slot 1.
